Design and functional principle of a vane engine
Vane motors essentially consist of a rotor rotating in a bore eccentrically offset from the rotor cylinder. The vanes form working chambers, the volume of which increases in the direction of rotation. As the compressed air expands, the pressure energy is subsequently converted into kinetic energy, thus producing the rotary motion.
Air motors that are designed to rotate in only one direction have more angle of rotation for the air to relax. Therefore, non-reversible van engines achieve higher power output and higher speeds than reversible air motors.
