Pneumatic turbines are continuous flow machines, which can be executed in single or two-stage design.

The conversion of pressure energy into kinetic energy takes place at the inlet nozzle. In a two-stage turbine, most of the kinetic energy is converted in the first turbine wheel. The air flow is diverted over the stationary turbine wheel. The remaining energy is converted in the second turbine wheel.

The turbine does not require any contact seals. Therefore, the operation of the turbine with unlubricated compressed air is completely wear-free. Continuous flow machines optimally utilize the energy of compressed air. Therefore, the air requirement of a turbine motor is 1/3 less compared to a vane air motor. The power/weight ratio [kg/kW] is only half as high.
