5 steps to fix insufficient power
My motor does not achieve a power output as described in the technical data.
What could be the cause?
THE 5-STEP CHECK
DO THEY SUPPLY SUFFICIENT AIR PRESSURE?
Often, there is sufficient pressure at the compressor, however, it does not reach the air motor. Measure the air pressure directly at the motor air inlet. Is the available pressure sufficient for your application?
DO THEY SUPPLY ENOUGH AIR?
Are there any constructions (valves, fittings, connectors) that throttle air supply or air exhaust?
Do you use hoses that have a sufficient internal diameter, are no longer than 3 meters and do not kink? Every additional meter between the compressor and the air motor causes a loss of pressure and, consequently, reduces the performance of the motor.
WHAT AIR QUALITY IS USED?
The supply air must be dry and free of dirt particles. Dust, condensation or foreign particles in the air can damage the air motor or gearing. Optimum durability and maximum performance of the air motor is obtained if the motor is lubricated with resin- and acid-free oil. One or two drops of oil per cubic meter of compressed air is all that is needed. Too much oil can lead to a loss of performance.
DEPRAG Air Motors of the BASIC LINE and ADVANCED LINE types are also suitable for oil-free operation.
The resulting power penalty of approximately 15% must be taken into account.
WAS THE AIR MOTOR SERVICED AT REGULAR INTERVALS?
How long (how many cycles) was the motor in operation?
How often an air motor should be serviced depends on many different factors. The duty cycle, application environment and conditions of use are just as important as the gear size and torque load that a motor must handle.
IS THE AIR MOTOR SUITABLE FOR YOUR APPLICATION AND IS IT CORRECTLY SIZED?
What kind of production environment is the air motor exposed to?
BASIC LINE Air motors are used in dry standard production environments.
ADVANCED LINE air motors with stainless steel housing are sealed and can therefore operate in extreme environments such as steam and dust. Our ADVANCED LINE motors are specifically adapted for different applications. For use in salt water, the housing materials and seals are specially designed. Motors developed for the food industry can be manufactured with a cleaning-resistant housing. In the medical industry, a specific vane material can be used that will withstand the sterilization process.
